New Prize for Creative Enterprise

 

The Museum Prize Trust (MPT) was established in 2001 as a charitable not-for-profit company to create a major annual prize for UK museums and galleries. Initially sponsored by the Gulbenkian Foundation, in 2007 the sponsorship was assumed by the Art Fund who now run the prize as the Museum of the Year. This remains the largest cash prize for museums in the UK. 

The MPT is now exploring, in partnership with Google Arts & Culture and the Association for Cultural Enterprises, and with initial funding from Arts Council England, the opportunity for establishing a new annual prize for Creative Enterprise. The new prize will recognise and reward the delivery of a significant commercial return on investment.

The first stage in establishing the new prize will be showcasing on Google Arts & Culture, powered by YouTube, short videos made by the MPT of up to six examples of exemplary ‘creative enterprise’. Accredited museums, galleries, and heritage organisations with charitable status are invited to submit short applications to be one of the six organisations profiled on Google Arts & Culture.

Entries could be for a sustained programme or a recent single initiative. Entries must demonstrate creativity in a museum and gallery context, clearly linked to its organisational purpose, within or beyond the building, with a demonstrable and sustained public and community impact, a significant financial and reputational return on investment and the potential to be an exemplar for the cultural sector.

Submissions of up to 500 words should be sent to info@museumprizetrust.org.uk by Thursday 17 January 2019.

Submissions should be headed with the name of the organisation, accreditation or charity number, a contact name, number and email address. Please include a brief description of the programme or initiative and an outline related financial statement.

Selection will be made late January and filming will take place February/March 2019.
